I will never, ever, understand what it is that makes 200-year-old vampires want to repeat high school over and over throughout history.

In other news, I’m starting to watch The Vampire Diaries, since everyone else seems to be doing it.

I read the books in the mid-90s, what with being, you know, 13 or whatever, so I’m at least mildly interested in the show, although I can already tell (10 minutes into the pilot) that there are significant changes from the books.

First impressions:

  • Bonnie looks nothing like described in the book, but this girl playing her is gorgeous and I think she has (so far, anyway) captured the spirit of the character.
  • Elena also doesn’t look anything like described in the books, and I get a bit of a Bella Swan vibe from her character.
  • Caroline actually does seem much like the character in the books.
  • The guy playing Stefan looks A) old enough to run for president and B) like some weird mash-up of all the dude vampires from Twilight.
  • Graveyard scene? Creepy and LOL.
