We cannot do anything with our lady brains and our lady bits. They just make it so we cannot do anything but be irrational and emotional all the time. We might ruin the mission by being on our *gaps* periods.

This has always been a hot topic and something I have always been torn by. There are some reasons why I do feel that maybe its best women aren’t on the “frontlines” and I use quotes because nowadays it doesn’t matter. You can not be on the “frontlines” and still be in combat, especially in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. I don’t agree with the way he worded this though. I do think women are fully capable of being on the frontline in combat but where the concern usually is isn’t what the women will do, its what the men will do. A man’s natural instinct is to protect women at all costs, especially if its a women in their unit that they grow close to. That can cloud their judgement and they could do something to compromise the mission because all they’re thinking about is saving their fellow female Soldier, Marine, Airmen, Sailor, Coastie. That’s just my opinion.

Are you kidding? A man’s “natural instinct,” huh?

I guess that’s why 35% or so of women in the military are raped by all the super protective dudes there.

Men don’t have a natural instinct to protect women. Men are socialized from fucking birth the see women as weaker, more vulnerable, more emotional, and less capable. For some men, I suppose, this exhibits as “protectiveness,” but only in a condescending and patriarchal way. For too many men, however, this socialization shows up in their behavior as a tendency to victimize women—hence why over a third of military women are raped. None of this is “natural.”

And for fuck’s sake, if you are ever in a relationship with a man who claims that he has a “natural instinct” to protect you because you are a woman, get the hell out before he beats or rapes or otherwise abuses you, emotionally or physically. A man who thinks that sees women as lesser beings, and that makes him dangerous.
